Ballistics Test Summary

We test fired five rounds of .380 Auto (ACP) Winchester 85 gr Silver Tip Super X into synthetic ballistic gelatin to observe its expansion and penetration characteristics. The ammo was fired from a Glock 42 pistol at a distance of 10 feet. A four-layer barrier of heavy fabric was placed in front of the gelatin to simulate clothing.

The complete data for this load from our test can be found on the chart below. The photo slider displays the expanded bullets that were retrieved from the gel. Pictured below is a high speed video that shows the bullet entering the gel at approximately 10,000 frames per second. The diagrams at the bottom of the page should give you an idea of how this load compares to other .380 Auto (ACP) loads.

Q: Just a question? How does this ammo perform through a 4inch barrel? I have a Taurus PT 58 and have had these rounds almost forever. I want to start carrying them

A: Thanks for reaching out Chris! This ammo should be plenty effective in conjunction with a 4" barrel. Please have a look at our ballistic gel test data, which we recorded with the aid of a Glock 42 (3.25" barrel): https://www.luckygunner.com/tadic_avp/product/preview/id/935#geltest. Your 4" barrel should deliver a higher muzzle velocity, so you can reasonably anticipate more energy delivery on impact and deeper penetration.

Q: Does this Bullet actually contain silver I really need this stuff for some werewolf issues?

A: I would consider that werewolves are much thicker skinned and have heavier skeletal structure than something I would select the .380 for....like for instance,an evil garden gnome. I would rather use something for medium sized game like the .44 Mag. Of course the savvy hunter would go with a rifle of something around the 45/70 caliber. Unfortunately you will have to depend strictly on shot placement since the projectile is merely silver colored and not actually of silver construction although wearing a crucifix might make the difference.....wait, wrong game.
