Best of 2014 – Gun Photo Gallery

Over the course of creating the last year of content for the Lounge, our online store, and our various social media pages, we’ve amassed quite a few photographs. Some of the best have been featured as the centerpiece of our most popular articles, but a few of our favorites ended up buried at the bottom of a post, or even edited out completely in the interest of brevity.

Here at the tail end of 2014, we wanted to take one final look back at the last year and share some of the best images that have come out of the Lucky Gunner headquarters.

Glock 42 Muzzle Flash

This first one might be my personal favorite, and not just because it has me in it. I’m a sucker for muzzle flash photos, and the lighting conditions were perfect for our photographer Matt to catch the fireworks coming from the muzzle during our Glock 42 review range testing.

M&P 22 Compact: JJ Abrams Style

Muzzle flash isn’t the only photographic gimmick that I love to shamelessly employ on the Lounge. I also like some good ol’ natural lens flare. I really enjoyed reviewing the little S&W M&P 22 Compact, but it’s not exactly the most photogenic gun. Solution: aim camera toward the setting sun, and you get some photo magic that would make Uncle JJ proud.

Catching Appleseed Brass

I had a little down time after I earned my Rifleman patch at an Appleseed Known Distance Event and I was able to grab a few photos of some of the other students. This guy had the most photogenic gun on the line — a camo stocked M1A — shown here firing at 200 yards from a sitting position (shameless gimmick #3: flying brass photos).

A Pair of 7.62s

This shot comes from Lucky Gunner contributor Kyle based out of Oklahoma. With just a simple point and shoot camera, he was able to catch these two rifles at just the right moment while reviewing a pair of DPMS 7.62×51 rifles.

.38 Super Attention Hog

1911s make a gun photographer’s job easy — that’s why they’re on the cover of every gun rag in the magazine aisle at the grocery store. I snapped a few quick photos of this Colt 1911 for a profile we ran on the .38 Super cartridge. Despite the article being about the cartridge and not the gun, the Colt demanded to be the center of attention and literally took the focus away from the ammo in this photo.

Welcome to my Happy Place

Okay, that Glock 42 muzzle flash pic isn’t my favorite. This one is my favorite. My other favorite. This photo wasn’t originally intended to be part of any article or post. I was sighting in my Remington 700 during a family vacation at my wife’s family farm in rural Kentucky, and couldn’t pass up the photo op. We posted the photo to Facebook a while back with some kind of silly caption, but here’s the text-free version at a high-res 1920×1080 in case you need some new Desktop wallpaper.
