Ballistics Test Summary

After firing five rounds of Federal 85 gr Hydra-Shok from a Ruger LCR into synthetic ballistic gelatin from 10 feet away through four layers of fabric to simulate clothing, we then measured the expansion and penetration of the bullets for this .327 Federal Magnum load, which you can see in the chart below.

The photos below provide a detailed view of the the expanded bullets that were recovered from the gelatin. The high speed video shows the first of our five shots as it entered the gel.

Q: Any idea when this will be available again?

A: Thanks for reaching out! I cannot promise exactly when we'll get a certain type of ammunition back in stock, and we don't have a system in place to alert our customers when ammo is back in stock. We do update our inventory very often, so I hope you'll check back in again soon!

Q: Why don't you include this "relatively" high powered round in your Ballistics information?

A: Hi Ray. Because the tests are a significant expense, we focus on the more commonly carried rounds. Besides that, we who KNOW about the .327 Magnum don't want to hurt everyone else's feelings about the puny rounds they choose! (in case you didn't pick up on it, I am a big fan of the caliber) Seriously, we do hope to include this caliber in future tests, and I will show this request to our testing department. I too would love to see that.
