A: Hi Mark! I just heard back from Henry. Here is what they say: As the Big Boy owner's manual states, aluminum-cased ammunition (e.g., “Blazer”) is not recommended. This is due to the higher probability of over-expansion of the spent casings, which can cause failure-to-extract (FTE) issues, because aluminum is softer than brass. We also do not recommend steel-cased ammunition due to its different expansion characteristics, and also because steel-cased ammunition is usually of inferior quality. We only recommend standard, brass-cased ammunition.

A: Hey Ed,
Thank you for the question and for stopping by the website!
The +P you see on some ammunition means the ammunition is loaded to greater pressure than normal rounds of that ammunition. That pressure can often lead to higher muzzle velocities, which many shooters like. You should know, however, that many firearm manufacturers do not suggest shooting +P ammo in their firearms because it can cause excess wear and tear on the barrel and possibly other components.
If you're not sure if you can shoot +P, you'll have to check your specific firearms manual to see what they suggest and if you're the type of shooter that's comfortable firing a round that the manufacturer advises you to stay away from.
