A: Hello David,
These 55gr. FMJ rounds by Federal in .223 have a lead core, copper jacket, and a brass case. There is no steel in them and they are non-magnetic. They are safe to shoot on ranges that do not allow magnetic rounds.

A: While this .223Rem round is well known to be fired in many AR-15 style semi automatic rifles, the cartridge may also be fired in .223 bolt action rifles.
The same limitations will apply between the 5.56 NATO round and the .223 Rem round. The 5.56 round may not be fired in a .223 rifle as the pressures of the 5.56 exceed the limitations of the .223 Rifle.

A: Grain refers to the weight of the bullet. There are 7000 grains in a pound, so a 40 grain bullet is extremely light. However, there are differences between the various weight bullets. Lighter bullets are faster than heavier bullets, but may not be as effective against larger targets or at longer ranges.
