Hornady’s Steel Match line of ammunition is a high-quality, low-price offering that combines Hornady’s industry-leading bullet technology with cost-saving manufacturing techniques to bring match-quality ammunition to shooters on a budget. Every cartridge uses a tough steel case with non-corrosive Berdan primers, loaded with a 125 grain Hornady Action Pistol (HAP) jacketed hollow point (JHP) bullet. The jacket covers the entire bullet, creating a hard surface the combines with the steel case to guarantee smooth feeding and prevent jams. Berdan primed cases are not reloadable.

Hornady’s HAP bullet is a streamlined version of their XTP (eXtreme Terminal Performance) bullet. Where the XTP is designed for defensive situations, the HAP bullet drops many of the XTP’s bells and whistles to create a simple but reliable JHP competition bullet. HAP bullets use a swaged-lead core for flight stability and accuracy, and the jacket is designed to protect the nose of the bullet to avoid the feeding problems common with JHP ammunition.
