Do you keep a suppressor on the 9mm handgun you would use for home defense? Smart – you only get one set of ear drums, after all. Hornady Subsonic 9mm is designed to perfectly complement your suppressor’s performance, but it’s going to noticeably soften your pistol’s report even if you haven’t shelled out $200 for a federal tax stamp.

This cartridge’s 147 grain bullet produces a 975 fps muzzle velocity out of a 4” barrel. That’s about 150 fps slower than the speed of sound, which means your suppressor won’t have a sharp cracking report to contend with. This round promotes even subtler performance thanks to its flash-suppressed powder, which minimizes the amount of light that will come out of the business end of your firearm – perfect when you want your eyes to remain acclimated to a dark environment.

The eXtreme Terminal Performance (XTP) bullet is Hornady’s match accurate jacketed hollow point. Its jacket fully shields the rim of the nose cavity, which smooths out feeding and prevents damage on impact that could compromise the bullet’s ability to deliver subsequent terminal expansion. The XTP’s jacket is additionally notched around its rim, which facilitates steady and uniform terminal expansion, and it is drawn so it becomes thicker toward its base – another feature which promotes more reliable expansion.

Hornady’s commitment to outstanding dependability includes loading the highest-quality brass cases and Boxer primers the great state of Nebraska will ever boast about.
