This cartridge is outfitted with a 147 grain projectile. Obviously, any 147gr load is going to have a subsonic muzzle velocity – in this round’s case, 945 fps. What really makes it special is its flat nose enclosed base projectile. It does indeed look like a soft point, but put that thought out of your mind. The FNEB is not designed to expand after striking soft tissue, which makes it no more effective for self-defense than an FMJ.
The FNEB bullet’s core is visible because it was poured into place while the lead was still liquified. That’s why the FNEB has fully jacketed base, which puts a stop to any lead aerosolization during ignition. The FNEB will keep your suppressor baffles cleaner, and it will have the same effect on your firearm’s barrel as well. In that sense the FNEB pretty much offers the same advantages as a TMJ.
