This 9mm cartridge has a 124 grain bullet, loaded to a subsonic muzzle velocity so it won’t make an intense cracking sound when fired. The bullet is a total metal jacket (TMJ), which offers the same kind of terminal ballistics as the more common FMJ. It won’t expand inside soft tissue, so it is not ideal for self-defense.
Unlike the FMJ, the TMJ’s jacket actually envelops the lead at the base of its core. This prevents hot propellant gasses from evaporating lead during ignition, which not only keeps the bullet undeformed for more consistent in-flight ballistics, but also prevents the release of toxic vapors which can accumulate inside of indoor ranges.
