Black Hills Ammunition of Rapid City, South Dakota doesn’t deal with subpar components. The owner, a cop of nearly four decades and one of our nation’s preeminent ammo authorities, wouldn’t have anything to do with suspect primers, flawed cases, or lackluster propellant. That’s why this 9mm +P round features one of the finest self-defense bullets on the market: the TAC-XP by Barnes.

This round’s 115 grain hollow point bullet is made entirely out of copper. Its lack of lead makes it both environmentally friendly and clean shooting, but neither of those traits really make it better for self-defense. The real perk of a monolithic bullet is its terminal performance. The TAC-XP simply doesn’t have a core and jacket that could peel apart during penetration, so it retains its weight remarkably well. Copper is also extremely durable, so the TAC-XP doesn’t splinter apart during high velocity impact. Couple those tactical advantages with the TAC-XP’s superior rotational stability and ability to expand fast and uniformly, and you’ve got an absolute force to be reckoned with – and right in your carry weapon’s magazine, no less.

This is an +P round, with a heavier champer pressure that boosts its bullet’s muzzle velocity to 1,175 fps. It’ll keep a flatter trajectory until it transfers dominating energy on impact, but not all handguns are designed to handle that increased pressure. Glock’s 9mm handguns can do it, but please check your weapon’s owner’s manual before you ask it to run this ammo!
