115 grains is the lightest of the 9mm’s three most common bullet weights. Alongside it’s 1,145 fps muzzle velocity, that gives this round relatively low recoil. (Not that the 9mm has all that much recoil to begin with.) More importantly, this round is loaded with a full metal jacket. It’s a less expensive bullet because it’s design is so simple. The FMJ won’t widen out if it hits soft tissue, which makes it less effective for self-defense than a JHP. But when you’re just shooting targets, you’re not getting any value out of the JHP’s potential for expansion anyhow.
