A: Thanks for reaching out Jamie! This ammo is a poor choice for personal protection. The full metal jacket (FMJ) bullet is not designed for terminal expansion. It's certainly capable of neutralizing a threat, but you really want a jacketed hollow point (JHP) for self-defense. The JHP expands while it penetrates soft tissue, which has three great advantages: it transfers more energy outward instead of merely forward, it delivers a wider and more injurious wound channel, and it reduces the chance of over-penetration that could potentially harm an innocent bystander. Certainly do order FMJ ammo for range shooting. That said, if I could only recommend a single 9mm round for personal protection, I'd recommend this police grade JHP ammo by Speer that we currently have in stock: luckygunner.com/9mm-124-grain-jhp-speer-gold-dot-50-rounds
