A: Personally, not at all sir. I'm opposed to the idea of getting hit by any bullets. The U.S. Armed Forces doesn't use FMJ bullets in combat because they do our enemies any favors.

By: Andino R Ward
A: Thanks for reaching out Andino! There's zero reason why this ammo shouldn't function correctly in any 9mm firearm. Some handguns are finicky, true, but your S&W and Walther should have no trouble with IMI's 9mm.

By: Michael
A: Thanks for reaching out Michael! There is no such thing as 9mm ammo that is specifically made for revolvers. There is one standardized set of dimensions that all 9mm ammo manufacturers must adhere to, and the cartridge is specifically designed for functionality in a semi-automatic firearm. This primarily means that the 9mm has a rimless case, as opposed to a traditional revolver cartridge which has a rim that helps the round chamber correctly in the cylinder. While certain revolvers and speedloaders may work with varying degrees of reliability, at the end of the day 9mm is 9mm. My only advice would be to select high-quality ammo from manufacturers who adhere to very strict tolerances when they draw and cut brass cases, and that moon clips work a lot better better than extractors as far as 9mm revolvers are concerned.

By: BJ
A: Thanks for reaching out BJ! Our selection is still a little limited in the wake of the 2020 ammo drought, but we've got some good options in stock for you. First off, I'd recommend the Sierra Outdoor Master 9mm ammo we have in stock over this particular ammo for self-defense. The IMI ammo is reliable and will work, but Sierra is an awesome American manufacturer and their JHP bullets perform a little more consistently when they penetrate soft tissue.
We currently have a couple options in stock for training ammo. The Remington Range is the higher quality ammo – not much to say about it except that it offers consistent recoil, point of aim, and feeding and extraction. The Ozkursan is Turkish steel-cased ammo. Steel cased ammo is a lot more cost effective, although it may jam your pistol a little more and it's certain to leave it dirtier following your target shooting session.
Please let me know if I glossed over any details you'd like to know more about!

A: Hello Bob! This ammo should function correctly in any firearm chambered for 9mm, and I'm certain a pistol as well made as the XD-M Elite would have zero issues with it. To be sure, this is not frangible ammo, though I am certain your handgun would run frangible rounds just fine!

A: Thanks for reaching out Brandon! Any 9mm ammo should function correctly in your 92x. This ammo is reliable enough to load in a handgun you would use for self-defense, but the Remington and Sierra JHP ammo we currently have in stock are both higher quality cartridges in strict terms of the reliability of their terminal performance.

By: Terrence Krips
A: Thanks for reaching out Terrence! You've done well to pick this ammo for your G19s. It's going to perform reliably, and it's going to deliver the terminal performance you want for home protection. I'd advise you and your wife to pick up some FMJ ammo and try your new handguns out at the range as well. Doesn't matter if you're not dead-eyes, but you definitely want to know how your firearms handle before you use them for personal protection. That's about all you need to know!

By: Mark
A: Thanks for reaching out Mark! This is without question good self-defense ammo, and I expect it should give your M&P Shield no trouble at all. If I may make a suggestion, though, I'd recommend the Underwood Xtreme Defender 9mm +P ammo over this one. Not to say IMI makes poor ammo, but Underwood is a good American manufacturer and that ammo has a really powerful solid copper bullet that feeds and penetrates with greater reliability than a JHP. Your handgun can safely fire 9mm +P – it'll just wear out its moving parts a little bit faster, but that's hardly of concern for self-defense.

By: Mark McInerney
A: Thanks for reaching out Mark! I only meant to say this round's bullet doesn't do anything radically different. It's not to be mistaken for a bullet like the Radically Invasive Projectile, for example, which essentially explodes into little knives during penetration. The di-cut expands into a mushroom formation.
IMI doesn't make low-quality cartridges. This is military-grade ammo, the same exact stuff the Israeli Defense Force uses. I guess I'd compare it to the ammo produced by America's Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in terms of quality.
I wouldn't claim this ammo is as good as Gold Dot, though. The glaring difference is that IMI's JHP doesn't have a bonded jacket, so it's just not going to penetrate barriers quite as reliably. And although IMI loads to SAAMI, NATO and CIP specs, Speer really pores a lot of effort into their Gold Dot loads' consistency.
Self-defense deserves the very best ammo. And at the end of the day, I'd venture that you would experience more cycling issues and core/jacket separation from this ammo than Gold Dot – albeit still very little. But even though this isn't on par with Gold Dot, I do in fact believe IMI's ammo is trustworthy enough for a handgun you would fire in self-defense.

By: Lisa
A: Thanks for reaching out Lisa! This ammo will keep practially indefinitely if you store it like you just described. Doesn't even need to be especially cool – room temperature is just fine. It's really temperature fluctuations that do the most damage to ammo, alongside direct sunlight and moisture/humidity.

By: Jeff
A: Thanks for reaching out Jeff! Drastically, I cannot say. A greater muzzle velocity like what you'd get out of a 10" barrel will give the bullet more energy with which to initiate terminal expansion, so I would suppose you may see a higher rate of success in that regard. Even if a JHP does fail to expand, having greater energy will only make its terminal ballistics more effective at neutralizing a target.
Have you seen this fella's video? He does a great ballistic gel test with multiple barrel lengths, it will give you a good sense of what this ammo can deliver: youtube.com/watch?v=QCf7JwVnSyg&ab_channel=Buffman-R.A.N.G.E.

By: Will
A: Thanks for reaching out Will! JHP bullets like these can fail to expand. This could partly be to do with the handgun, as a very short barrel may not give a JHP adequate energy to expand. This is because short barrels give hot propellant gasses less time to propel the bullet during ignition. If your P365 has a 3.7" barrel, it would be kind of hard to blame its barrel length, though.
Mass-produced, middle-of-the-road JHP bullets like these may also exhibit a higher failure rate just because they fail at expansion during penetration. A heavily engineered and carefully manufactured bullet like the Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot goes for a premium precisely because it does function more reliably, expansion included. If you really want the most reliable performance, I'd recommend the Gold Dot ammo we have in stock over this. That's police ammunition, and your SIG is designed to safely fire 9mm +P as well. It'll just wear out the moving parts faster, but that's hardly of concern as far as self-defense goes.

A: Thank you for reaching out Celeste! The Gold Dot is indeed an exceptional cartridge, and we hope to get 9mm +P Gold Dot back in stock as soon as possible. That said, IMI doesn't make low-quality cartridges. This is military-grade ammo, the same exact stuff the Israeli Defense Force uses. I guess I'd compare it to the ammo produced by America's Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in terms of quality.
