This 9mm +P cartridge is from Remington’s Disintegrator Lead Free line of ammunition. Right away you can probably tell what makes its bullet special: Its core fragments into powder on impact, and it contains no toxic metal.

This round’s 101 grain plated frangible bullet consists of a compressed iron powder core and electroplated copper jacket. The jacket strengthens the bullet so that it won’t break apart while feeding in a semi-auto, or when it’s subjected to intense pressure in the barrel. Its core turns into harmless dust when the bullet collides with a solid surface, so you don’t have to breathe in carcinogenic fumes when you fire indoors.

A frangible bullet like this has two major applications. If you like shooting steel while training indoors, you’ll keep your breathing space a whole lot cleaner – and drastically reduce the chance of splash-back putting you in harm’s way. And if you’re looking for home defense ammo, this is an excellent choice. Such a bullet does ample damage to soft tissue, yet is far less likely to penetrate as many wall layers and still have much energy remaining.

This is a +P round, which alongside its lightweight bullet gives it an ample 1,220 fps muzzle velocity. That gives it a really flat trajectory, along with quite a bit of energy to transfer on impact. Please make sure your firearm is rated for overpressure ammunition before you ask it to run this ammo. Please also note that even a firearm rated for overpressure ammo may wear out faster if you train with 9mm +P. Finally, this round’s bullet may harm the shooter if it’s fired through a ported barrel or compensator.
