A: Thanks for reaching out David! Franginble ammo is used for tactical applications in areas where penetration of walls would pose an enormous risk. Federal Air Marshal use it for obvious reasons, and if terrorists ever took hostages at a nuclear power plant it would be used there as well. In short, frangible ammo is indeed capable of neutralizing a threat, even if it is less effective than expanding bullets like the JHP. If you're extremely concerned about penetrating walls and jeopardizing innocent bystanders, then frangible bullets are the best way to minimize that risk. But please be forewarned: frangible bullets, which are designed to disintegrate when they collide with steel and other hard surfaces, are still capable of penetrating threats and even multiple layers of wall board.

A: Thanks for reaching out James! I won't be so bold as to guarantee flawless performance with any particular ammo, since I can't test it out in your wife's S&W personally. What I can do is recommend very high-quality 9mm ammo and hope its low tolerances and standardized components will translate to reliable feeding, ignition and extraction.
To that end, Federal Sytech Training Match is superb: luckygunner.com/9mm-147-grain-total-synthetic-jacket-fn-federal-syntech-training-match-500-rounds
So is Speer Lawman, which is made specifically for police training: luckygunner.com/9mm-147-gr-tmj-speer-lawman-1000-rounds
If you're talking self-defense, I believe Speer Gold Dot is one of the best options out there: luckygunner.com/9mm-124-grain-jhp-speer-gold-dot-50-rounds
Likewise, Federal HST is another superb law enforcement quality line of ammo: luckygunner.com/9mm-147-grain-jhp-hst-federal-premium-le-50-rounds
