The Yugoslav National Army made the 8mm Mauser their service round following WWII. By the end of the 1940s the JNA designated the M49 as its infantry’s standard ammunition. (Snipers got the more accurate M75.) Countless M49 ball ammo saw use during the Yugoslav Wars following Yugoslavia’s extinction, but the warring sides didn’t spend the entirety of their former government’s stockpiles. Some survived -- and now you can own 15 rounds of it.

This cartridge is a splendid deal on what you need to enjoy your range time. Its 198 grain projectile remains accurate downrange and keeps a rifle’s bore in better condition, and its brass casing is still in good shape for having been shelved for so long. Do take caution that you clean your rifle thoroughly after firing this corrosive ammo, and also note that it’s a poor choice for handloading. That Berdan primer creates a lot of extra work at a reloading bench.
