This round is loaded with a type of bullet most Americans haven’t heard of, either. The soft point cutting edge is just like any other soft point, in that its lead core’s unjacketed tip is designed to let out wide expansion. What distinguishes the bullet is its latter feature: an angular shoulder, which cuts a wider and altogether more injurious entry wound into the quarry than a conventional spitzer bullet could manage.
This round’s ballistics are good despite its 173 grain bullet’s admittedly less aerodynamic profile. Assuming you’re firing through the same 23.5” barrel S&B used to record the round’s 2,526 fps muzzle velocity, you can expect a G1 BC of 0.376 (0.189 G7). Based on that, you can also expect performance that looks (loosely) like this:
★ 0 yds; 2,526 fps; 2,451 ft lbs; -1.50”
★ 100 yds; 2,300 fps; 2,032 ft lbs; 2.56”
★ 200 yds; 2,086 fps; 1,671 ft lbs; 0.01”
★ 300 yds; 1,883 fps; 1,363 ft lbs; -10.56”
★ 400 yds; 1,695 fps; 1,103 ft lbs; -30.98”
★ 500 yds; 1,522 fps; 890 ft lbs; -63.55”
S&B doesn’t sneak steel into their 7x64mm bullets, and this ammo’s Boxer-primed brass cases are brand new and worthy of handloading. Making your own 7x64mm is a swell idea, especially considering how no American companies will do it for you.
