This cartridge is loaded with Federal’s proprietary Trophy Bonded Tip. It’s a bullet designed to deliver excellent accuracy, penetration and expansion – like a little clockwork deer killin’ machine.
This round’s 140 grain projectile features a boat tail and polymer tip that both serve to minimize drag. Federal’s match-grade Gold Medal primer and special propellant that is formulated to reduce copper fouling both have welcome effects on accuracy as well. If the bullet hauls out of the barrel at its advertised muzzle velocity of 2,800 fps, then its 0.430 G1 ballistic coefficient will enable 200-yard zero with -8.0” drop at 300 (assuming 1.5” sight height). That’s flat as a board by 140gr 7mm-08 standards!
The Trophy Bonded Tip obviously features a bonded jacket. The robust solid copper shank is fused to its lead core, and accordingly resists fragmenting apart on impact. In addition to hanging onto the momentum it needs in order to bore deeply though venison, the Trophy Bonded Tip also lets out the big expansion which maximizes trauma to the quarry.
Nickel-plated brass cases – the cherry on top of the sundae! They reduce friction to ease up feeding and extraction, and resist becoming tarnished while exposed to the damp conditions you very well may have to hunt in.
