7.62x54r was invented in 1891 in Russia, and although this round started out for the Mosin Nagant, it has subsequently been employed in such rifles as the PKM, the Dragunov, and many others. This round actually has the longest service life of any other military cartridge, and also makes a great hunting and range round as well.
