“Is this ammo magnetic?” A lot of our customers ask that whenever they see steel cases. They know those typically indicate bimetal jacketed bullets, which many indoor ranges prohibit for safety reasons. But this 7.62x39 ammo by Red Army Standard features a brass jacketed bullet with a lead core. It can’t attract a magnet, so you can finally enjoy budget-friendly Russian ammo at your range of choice.

This ammo’s cases certainly are magnetic, though. They’re made of pure steel, which is a whole lot more cost-effective on the production side of things than brass. Red Army Standard goes the extra mile to polymer coat their cases, which enhances their lubricity for smoother feeding as well as protects them somewhat against corrosion. Still, don’t make any plans to reload steel cases – they do not return to their original dimensions once fired.

These rounds’ Berdan primers are noncorrosive, and their propellant is clean-burning (do expect steel cased ammo to cause relatively more fouling in spite of that). This ammo is new production, not military surplus, and it’s ready for a good (albeit brief) home inside your AK’s magazine!

Only got 960 rounds

So I ordered 1000 rounds and I revived a case of ammo labeled 1000rnds with the lot number and all the proper labels, the ammo comes in individual boxes of 20, the case is sealed and prepared as a whole unit, however… the boxes are stacked 6 boxes long, and 2 wide, and then 4 boxes high, so that’s 12 boxes per layer, and 4 layers, at 20 rounds a box that’s only 960 rounds… not 1000… I contacted customer service and the gentleman was very receptive to my concern, he asked for some pictures and assured me the issue will be resolved so stay tuned as I’ll update this review once we get it figured out but I thought it was interesting… it was clearly prepared this way from the supplier, luckgunner has always been great to deal with, so it’ll be interesting to see what we figure out…

Good ammo for use at ranges that don’t allow steel jacketed projectiles

This is good ammo for use at ranges that won’t let you shoot mild steel jacketed, copper washed, bi-metal projectiles, and it’s been acceptably accurate and 100% reliable through all of my AKs.

I noticed that a previous reviewer has mistaken ammunition with brass jacketed bullets with brass cased ammo. This is brass jacketed, steel cased ammunition.

My experiences with Lucky Gunner have always been positive.

I purchased this before the import ban so my value is based off the price I paid. Decent enough ammo. Have gone though about 200 rounds and only found one split casing (before firing). Works as advertised. Goes bang, leaves hole. I do have to applaud Lucky Gunner. I ordered the case Friday afternoon and it was at my door the following Sunday.

Yo this ammo is off the chain dawg, can’t believe it sold out this quick too, not the best, not the worst, it’s cheaper then 5.56, and packs a bigger punch.

A: No sir, this cartrdige's bullet has a lead core and a steel-free jacket. It is nonmagnetic.

Q: Why does the case say Tula ammo?

A: Thanks for reaching out Chaz! Tula loaded this ammo for Century International Arms. Wolf's ammunition also frequently has Tula's headstamp on their cases. Is ammo comes from Russia, there's a very good chance Tulammo has some involvement in the production.

A: Hello Jeff! No sir, this is a noncorrosive primer. "Red Army Standard" sounds like ammo that could have been sitting in a warehouse somewhere since the Cold War, but it's just the brand name Century International Arms gives to the new production ammo they import from Russia.
