This round is loaded with Hornady’s state of the art ELD-VT. Like the ELD Match and the ELD-X, the ELD-VT features Hornady’s proprietary Heat Shield. It’s a polymer tip that greatly streamlines the ELD-VT’s frontal profile without getting warped by air friction. Unlike the other ELDs, the ELD-VT features Hornady’s extra thin and concentric Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket. In addition to enhancing the bullet’s rotational stability, the AMP jacket is thin enough for undergo violent fragmentation – which is precisely what follows after impact smashes the tip’s tail into the lead core.
This round’s 80 grain bullet’s 3,020 fps muzzle velocity out of a 24” barrel begets a 0.410 G1 ballistic coefficient (or more accurately a 0.206 G7 BC, since the ELD-VT does have a boat tail). Center it up 1.5”. Zero in at 200 yards. Expect -6.8” drop at 300 yards. All that and reloadable brass cases. Nice!
