The Controlled Expansion Tip is Sig’s take on a high-precision, high-impact polymer-tipped hunting bullet. The 130 grain projectile’s nose is shaped like a dart’s, and its boat tail sweeps a clean, low-drag channel through the air. If it hits its advertised muzzle velocity, the 0.51 G1 BC bullet will reach a 200-yard zero with 1,800 ft lbs striking energy, and subsequently drop -7.25” at 300 yards (assuming 1.5” sights; real world performance will vary).
The Controlled Expansion Tip kills. Its tip, nose cavity and concentric copper jacket combine to deliver a broad, lethal wound column plus sufficiently deep penetration to take large game. We’d probably prefer a heavier bullet than 130 grains for elk, but a white/blacktail is no match for this round. Hogs won’t like it, either.
