This cartridge is loaded in the great state of Illinois with a behemoth 300 grain bullet. Its 1,580 fps muzzle velocity translates to a muzzle energy of 1,663 ft lbs – more powerful than any 5.56x45 cartridge on the market.
Needless to say, any living thing that gets hit by a 50 AE is going to become seriously disappointed/dead. This rounds bullet is a full metal jacket, without a nose cavity that delivers terminal expansion. But its flat nose profile does help the bullet to penetrate more deeply while simultaneously gouging a more injurious wound channel. If you were confronted by a bear, one or two of these bullets delivered straight to its center of mass will make the fiend wish it had stuck to stealing picnic baskets.
This cartridge’s big brass case is a fine pick for handloading, and Underwood does not load magnetic or corrosive components. Low-flash propellant will help to conserve your eyesight if you ever have to open fire at dusk or night!
