This is not SS197SR ammunition. It is not made by FN Herstal. But it is loaded with the same 40 grain V-MAX bullet as SS197SR. It is also made by Hornady: the Nebraskan company responsible for creating the V-MAX.
The polymer tipped V-MAX doesn’t just make this cartridge pretty. The exquisitely streamlined bullet is designed for accuracy courtesy of its flat base, balanced AMP jacket, and of course its pointed red tip. The “V” in V-MAX stands for varmint: the very animal it is designed to kill quick via grenade-like terminal expansion.
We suspect that Hornady intentionally gave this round a higher muzzle velocity than the SS197SR: 1,810 fps, as opposed to 1,738 fps (both 4.8” test barrels). It’s not a night and day difference, yet it is one that promotes a flatter trajectory all the same. Aim to 100 yards and drop at 200 will be in the ballpark of -17.0”. Brass cased, reloadable, and all American. Order however many boxes you like!
