No bullet is guaranteed to be reliable 100% of the time. With that said, Hornady’s FTX jacketed hollow point does have a high likelihood of delivering precisely the terminal ballistics you want when the pressure is on. The 40 grain FTX’s hollow point nose cavity is completely filled by a polymer plug. This material prevents the nose cavity from clogging up with fabric and other debris before it can reach the threat’s soft tissue. As soon as full penetration is achieved, the FTX sets right to work expanding so as to (A) maximize trauma to the threat, and (B) lessen the risk of over-penetration that could endanger a nearby precious being.
This round’s 1,810 fps muzzle velocity was recorded with a 4.8” barrel, which is not coincidentally the same barrel length as an FN Five-seveN. Its new (reloadable) brass case contains Hornady’s special flash-suppressed propellant, which can help your night vision remain intact so you can accurately place your follow-up shots. Every advantage counts when you’re shooting for all the marbles.
