A: Thanks for reaching out Seth! Wolf Gold ammunition is usually nonmagnetic: brass cases, lead cores and copper alloy jackets. The M855 bullet is an exception, however, because its design demands the inclusion of a seven-grain steel tip which comprises the frontal section of the bullet's core. As such M855 ammo is magnetic by necessity. But to be sure, this bullet's jacket contains no steel itself – just its core.

A: Good question Micah. Wolf Gold ammo may be headstamped "223" even when it is in fact actually 5.56. This is M855 spec ammo, so it really only could be 5.56 at the end of the day. And you've got it right – don't fire 5.56 in a rifle chambered only for 223, but the other way around is okay.

A: You heard correctly Andrew. On June 8, 2017 Wolf issued the following advisory:
"WOLF Performance Ammunition has received notifications relating to Smith & Wesson M&P-15 rifles that are discharging out of battery which is evidenced by a lack of damage to the chamber and barrel extension. This shows that the rifle’s bolt did not lock into the barrel, yet the hammer was still able to strike the firing pin to detonate the cartridge and cause a failure. These failures can cause major damage to the firearm and bodily injury. As a result, WOLF Ammunition does NOT recommend using our ammunition with any Smith and Wesson M&P-15 rifles until this issue is resolved. Moving forward, WOLF’s 100% Performance Guarantee will not cover any damages associated with Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifle or rifle created failures exhibiting the above described characteristics."
Bearing that in mind, their Gold label isn't Wolf's usual ammo. It is brass cased instead of steel, and loaded to NATO specs in Taiwan instead of made in Russia. For that reason I believe this Gold label 5.56 ammo shouldn't present your M&P Sport with any functionality issues!

A: Thanks for reaching out Ken. An M855 bullet is composed of a lead core with a seven grain steel tip. Together the lead core and steel tip are jacketed in copper alloy.

A: No sir, 5.56 and 223 will not work in a rifle chambered for 300 AAC Blackout. We have currently got a couple of options for 300 Blackout in stock: luckygunner.com/rifle/300-blackout-ammo. The polymer tip ammo ought to serve you well for self-defense.
