Hornady puts their Frontier label on ammo that’s headed straight for the range. This big ol’ case holds 1,000 rounds of 5.56x45 – no colorful, fancy-schmancy boxes separating them into neat rows and columns of 20, 40 or 100. Just open this case once, and it’s as open as it’s possible for it to be!

But its packaging is arguably not the most exciting thing about this ammo. Hornady has their Frontier 5.56x45 ammo assembled at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, so it exhibits the same quality as the stuff Uncle Sam gives his own at Army rifle ranges. These rounds’ brass casings are heat-treated to ensure that they seal up a chamber tightly during ignition, and also that they’ll hold up for multiple reloads. These rounds’ military-grade primers and propellant make them intensely reliable.

Hornady contributed this round’s bullet themself. It’s a simple FMJ, non-expanding yet designed to promote smooth feeding and a cleaner bore during a target practice session. Hornady still applies their characteristic attention to detail even when making the “vanilla” bullet, of course, so count on consistent weights and dimensions and uniformly distributed cores and jackets from every bullet in this case. This ammo's projectile features a lead core and is not attracted to a magnet.
