The 55 grain full metal jacket belongs at the bottom of any high-volume shooter’s food pyramid. The basic yet accurate projectile consists of nothing more than a lead core and a copper jacket, so it can’t attract a magnet. Its cannelure keeps the bullet anchored at ideal seating depth while recoil jerks the round backward in the magazine. No terminal expansion to speak of, but definitely terminal fragmentation at close range. This isn’t varmint hunting ammo per se, although we’ve yet to meet a ground squirrel that can tank a 55gr FMJ.
