If you’re familiar with AR-15 ammunition, then you’re going to notice right away that this 5.56x45 round’s 112 grain bullet is twice as heavy as usual. That’s because Atomic’s Tactical Cycling Subsonic line of ammunition is designed to minimize noise! So heavy a bullet has a muzzle velocity of only 1,050 fps. That makes even an unsuppressed AR’s report just about the same as a 22 LR, and also noticeably cuts down on recoil.

This ammo is by no means meant for long distance shooting. It’s optimized for close quarters combat, as its energy and stopping power are more comparable to a 9mm than any conventional 5.56. This round’s long bullet will even tumble around in flight, still dealing substantial damage accompanied by a significantly reduced chance of penetration. That makes this ammo a great choice for home defense, as well as law enforcement as it is less likely to penetrate fellow officers’ body armor in addition to several layers of wallboard.

This Arizona-made and SAAMI spec ammo still reliably cycles an AR. Atomic recommends a barrel twist of 1:7 or faster for CQB accuracy.
