What does “XTP” stand for? Extra tasty peanuts? No! It stands for “eXtreme Terminal Performance,” because Hornady couldn’t come up with a more fitting name for their extremely accurate (and just as deadly) jacketed hollow point.
This cartridge’s 300 grain JHP wears a drawn gilding metal jacket – not a plated one – which is why it is progressively tapered instead of uniformly thick. The thinner jacket surrounding its nose cavity helps the XTP initiate faster, wider expansion at lower velocities, as does its symmetrically skived rim. And between its swaged lead core and highly concentric jacket, the XTP possesses all the gyroscopic stability it needs to stay right on target.
This powerful hunting and defense load features a corrosion-resistant and reloadable nickel-plated brass case, as well as Underwood’s low-flash propellant (which sparks up dimmer to help the shooter conserve their eyesight’s acclimation to low lighting). Made in Illinois, and a perfect companion to any deer or hog handgun hunter!
