This round is by Hornady’s Subsonic label. Loaded with a hefty 395 grain bullet and low flash propellant, it produces neither very much report nor light when fired – optimal if you’ve equipped a suppressor. The Sub-X features Hornady’s soft Flex Tip, a column of polymer that slams inward to build up substantial energy before connecting with the base of the nose cavity. In conjunction with the symmetrically placed notches around the rim of its jacket, the Sub-X reliably expands within game even at velocities as low as 900 fps. (Which with this round will be about 240 yards out of a 24” barrel.) And thanks to its ballistically efficient boat tail, the Sub-X retains superior downrange energy!
The Sub-X offers great weight retention even at higher velocities. It features Hornady’s InterLock ring, where the jacket extends into the core to keep the two from fragmenting apart. The Sub-X’s cannelure also embeds the jacket to the core to create an additional anchor point.
This round features Hornady’s best brass, primer, and specially formulated propellant so you can hunt in the dark with confidence. And if you were looking for something for home defense – well, even the most dedicated malfeasant is going to find this round’s terminal effect difficult to shrug off.
