A: Thanks for reaching out John! This ammo is designed to satisy the FBI test protocol for personal defense ammunition, which takes points off for overpenetration that could jeopardize an innocent bystander. The XTP bullet is engineered to expand reliably, which does help it to anchor inside of its target without passing through it. The Federal Premium Law Enforcement 45 ACP we currently have in stock is similarly designed to avoid overpenetration – that is exceptionally high quality ammo, in my opinion. You may also like the Federal Punch. That round's bullet is not designed for law enforecement use, so the lead in its core is accordingly a little softer. I don't think it should run a great risk of punching through a human-sized target if the bullet is not designed to effectively penetrate a car door or a sheet of auto glass. But if you really want to take every precaution you can against overpenetration, you may opt for the Speer Lawman frangible ammo we have in stock. Its bullet isn't optimized to deliver the terminal ballistics you'd want for self-defense, per se, but the frangible bullet's tendency to fragment apart during penetration robs it of much of the monentum it could use to pass through a target.
