It was actually CCI who revolutionized the aluminum shell casing, which they did as a solution to the rising cost of brass back in the 1970s. But now that they share ownership with Federal, they’re more than willing to share their techniques with them!

This 45 ACP cartridge from Federal’s Champion label will let you hone your 1911 skills without having to file for chapter 13 bankruptcy. Aluminum is a lot more economical than brass, and it’s also significantly lighter. You may not notice the difference in a loaded magazine, but carrying this case of ammo is somewhat easier because of that. The trade-off with aluminum casings is that they’re too rigid to be fired more than once. Furthermore, because they’re non-magnetic some indoor ranges do take issue with them.

Outside of its special casing, this is an absolutely conventional range round. Its 230 grain bullet and 845 fps muzzle velocity are both extremely common to the 45 ACP, so training with this ammo should give you really practical experience with your self-defense loads. These rounds’ FMJ bullets deliver reliable feeding and in-flight ballistics, and their primers are formulated to ignite without producing corrosive residues.
