A: Thanks for reaching out Greg! Frangible ammo is certainly capable of incapacitating a threat, although it's terminal ballistics are far less effective than those of a JHP bullet. I'd only recommend this ammo for personal protection if you are extremely concerned about penetrating multiple walls with a missed shot. Ammo like this would be used by a SWAT team if terrorists took over a nuclear power plant, for example. You'll be far better prepared if you load this ammo in your everyday carry:

A: Thanks for reaching out Eric! We have not performed the FBI test protocol or any other ballistics testing with this ammunition. Speer themselves have recorded this ammo's in-flight ballistics within 100 yards, thoguh they have not reported its performance in ballistic gel: le.vistaoutdoor.com/ammunition/speer/handgun/details.aspx?id=53395
Please forgive me if I tell you anything you already know – I suspect that you're already familiar with ammunition. A frangible bullet is designed to disintegrate when it strikes a surface harder than itself, hence its popularity for training with steel targets. Although a frangible bullet can't deliver terminal expansion like a JHP, its terminal performance is roughly equivalent to an FMJ even though it may fragment apart inside of soft tissue following high velocity impact. (And the Armed Forces, like I suspect you know, uses FMJs for combat operations.) For that reason I would say this ammo would prove effective for self-defense. 155 grains of sintered copper and tin hitting a target at 25 yards with over 350 ft lbs of energy is going to deal some serious damage no matter which way you slice it. And although the RHT bullet may penetrate multiple layers of wallboard, it is preferred by some shooters for home defense when they wish to minimize the risk to bystanders' safety.
With competent marksmanship, this ammo is absolutely capable of neutralizing a threat. Please let me know if I missed anything you'd like to know!
