This 45-70 Government ammo is one old American gunmaker’s way of saluting another! Marlin Firearms is celebrating their 150th year in business in 2020. Remington (which recently celebrated their 200th year in business) offers this lever-action ammo so you can put one of Marlin’s fine rifles to work in the field.

It wouldn’t have made sense for Remington to do anything experimental with this honorary 45-70 cartridge. It has the same 405 grain bullet weight that the round originally offered, and its 1,598 fps muzzle velocity will treat you to the 45-70’s traditional effective range.

This round’s soft point bullet is fine for range training, but it’s real place is hunting. The bullet’s ring of gilding metal will help it to slip deep inside of a buck without splitting apart. Its broad soft lead tip will deliver fast and decisive terminal expansion. This bullet’s tip is flat, of course, so that it is safe to load in a tubular magazine.

Remington’s brass will cycle and chamber precisely in a lever action, and it is a swell choice for reloading. This round’s non-corrosive primer won’t rust a rifle’s action, which is especially important if it’s 150 years old.
