This cartridge was born in the great state of Oregon with a jacketed hollow point projectile. It’s fundamentally the same kind of JHP you’d find on a self-defense load, and will deliver positive expansion that kills more effectively than a solid point alternative could’ve. The JHP’s flat nose profile will inflict pretty serious harm even if expansion doesn’t take place. It’ll also ensure smooth and safe operation in a lever-action rifle. You always want that!
Grizzly’s new brass cases will give you the option of breathing new life into this ammo, if you so wish. The round’s 1,500 fps muzzle velocity isn’t too hot in light of its bullet’s 300 grain weight. We reckon any 45-70 firearm can handle this round’s pressure, right down to the little Cyclops by Bond Arms.
