Underwood specifically warns against firing this ammo in a Bulldog. It’s fine for any other 44 Special (or 44 Magnum) revolver (or rifle) you’d care to take hunting, though! And so long as your aim is good – and you respect the 44 Spl’s effective range – you’re going to have a successful time of it!
This cartridge’s 225 grain bullet is a Keith-style semi-wadcutter. It’s not shaped to undergo expansion. It’s shaped to penetrate as deeply as possible, as well as stamp out the most harmful wound channel possible without widening out in the process. The bullet is hard cast – i.e. made of heavily alloyed lead which undergoes virtually zero deformation after striking its target. It’s also coated with “Black Cherry” polymer, which nearly eliminates lead fouling and increases barrel lifespan by greatly reducing friction as well. No burning plastic smell on ignition!
Hunting when it’s dark out gets a lot easier when you’re sparking up low-flash propellant. And if your hunt takes you through the dampness, then you’ll appreciate (reloadable) nickel-plated brass cases’ resistance to corrosion.
