The 44 Magnum is already a potent cartridge, but when it’s this +P+ load by Buffalo Bore it achieves a level of power you’re simply not going to find elsewhere. This round sports an exceptionally heavy 340 grain projectile. It is a lead flat nose, and thus able to punch a great hole through its target. It is also a hard cast bullet, which can burrow to fantastic depths within its target. While we assert that this is a good self-defense cartridge, we do so with a caveat -- it’s suitable for defense against bears, not people. You’d probably only want to use this round for self-defense against several human attackers if they were conveniently all lined up in a row.

This +P+ load isn’t meant for just any firearm. Buffalo Bore sternly advises that it only be chambered in the following weapons: Ruger Red Hawk, Super Red Hawk, Super Blackhawk, or Vaquero; Freedom Arms Model 83; Taurus Raging Bull (steel only); Colt Anaconda; Magnum Research BFR; Dan Wesson revolvers; Thompson Center Encore, CVA Hunter; H&R Handi-Rifle; or any rifle with a falling block action.

A: Hello again George! I just got the most definitive answer to your question I could have hoped for. From the manufacturer: "Tim Sundles, the owner of Buffalo Bore Ammo and the designer of our ammo, says that load’s pressure is in the 47,000 to 48,000 PSI range."

Q: HELLO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF IT IS OK TO SHOOT 340 GR HARD CAST + P IN MY S&W 629 STAINLESS 6" BARREL ???? THANKS !

A: Thanks for reaching out Charles! Your 629 can fire hard cast bullets just fine. I do not recommend this ammo for your revolver, however. This is a +P+ load, not +P, and Buffalo Bore explicitly warns that S&W revolvers are not rated for such powerful ammunition. They say this ammo is only good for Ruger Red Hawk, Ruger Super Red Hawk (the Ruger Alaskan is a short barrel Super Redhawk), Ruger Super Blackhawk or Vaquero, Freedom Arms Model 83, Taurus Raging Bull All Steel Versions (no lightweight alloys), Colt Anaconda, Magnum Research BFR and Dan Wesson revolvers.
