This round’s 320 grain bullet is a “hard cast wide lead nose gas check.” That’s quite a mouthful, but it all makes perfect sense when you break it down.
• “Hard cast” indicates that the bullet is made of heavily alloyed lead. It’s much harder as a result, and accordingly avoids deformation that could have resulted in insufficiently deep penetration.
• “Wide lead nose” simply refers to the bullet’s shape. The deformation-resistant bullet’s wide and flat nose profile acts similar to a hole punch as it gouges a truly harmful wound column into the target – zero terminal expansion needed.
• “Gas check” refers to the bullet’s gasket-like base. It creates an efficient seal against the bore, which enables more propellant gas to propel the bullet forward instead of leaking around it.
Word to the wise: We label this ammo as suitable for self-defense, but it’s not for the kind of threats you’re likely to encounter in Downtown America. The hard cast WLNGC is more or less certain to pass clean through a man-sized threat, which could spell catastrophe if an innocent bystander is standing right behind them.
