We always feel like an idiot when we endorse a cartridge by saying “We wouldn’t want to get shot with it!” Still, little else comes to mind when introducing this 44 Magnum cartridge by Remington. Optimal for hunting deer and black bear, it could punch a gaping hole clean through a human-sized threat as well.

Remington pulled it off by loading a 225 grain XPB bullet by Barnes. The solid copper bullet makes lead fouling of the barrel impossible and complies with toxic bullet prohibitions. Its jacketless, monolithic design makes it steadier in flight, as well as resistant to fragmentation as it pierces a mammal’s thick hide and skin.

“HTP” stands for high terminal performance, and it’s no misnomer. As the XPB punches deeper and deeper into its prey it opens up to protrude six sharp petals that rip and tear an undeniably cataclysmic wound channel. Once more, we wouldn’t want to get shot with this round!

Remington’s American-made revolver cartridges have the high quality brass cases they need to extract swiftly, as well as responsive primers and propellant that burns up entirely to mitigate barrel fouling. This ammo would make a fine choice for hunting with a lever-action as well.
