The Hornady eXtreme Terminal Performance is one of the all around best jacketed hollow point bullets on the market. This 44 Mag load’s 180 grain XTP JHP features a jacket that is drawn – not plated – which is the reason why it can vary in thickness across its length. Thick in back and thin in front, the jacket easily splits open at lower velocities while simultaneously aiding in weight retention. The XTP’s symmetrically stamped rim serrations also promote wider expansion. And because its nose is protected by its jacket, the XTP easily punctures hide, clothing, and other barriers without becoming too damaged for subsequent expansion.

Underwood’s Ohio factory loads good components. That goes beyond one of Hornady’s most popular defense/hunting bullets. Underwood’s low-flash propellant preserves the shooter’s eyesight at night, and their nickel-plated brass cases:
• Smooth out extraction from the cylinder
• Protect the brass underneath from corrosion
• Facilitate clean-up in preparation for handloading
• Look nice

Does your revolver have a titanium, scandium or aluminum alloy receiver? Then Underwood recommends loading only one or two of these rounds at a time, to prevent crimp jump. They prefer steel revolvers for their 44 Mag ammo.

This ammo is good for lever-action rifles!
