HST ammunition is Federal's latest development in personal defense cartridges. Designed to excel at the FBI's rigorous ammo tests, HST rounds feature a bullet with a patented skived-tip design that breaks into six long petals upon contact with an assailant. Instead of a mushroom shape, the expanded round looks more like a star; this shape provides better penetration without giving up anything in the way of expansion. Additionally, the jacket is mechanically locked near the base of the core to provide optimal weight retention.
