This 180 grain .40 S&W load from Speer Gold Dot is an excellent choice to carry in your defensive firearm. Speer’s Gold Dot line has a time-tested reputation for reliability and performance, so you can be confident that your weapon will work like you need it to every single time. Speer’s Short Barrel ammunition is specifically designed for barrels as short as 1.9 inches, making this an ideal concealed-carry load.

Speer Gold Dot ammunition fires an alloyed lead core bullet bonded to its jacket via Speer’s Uni-Cor bonding process that almost eliminates core-jacket separation. This ensures excellent accuracy and controlled expansion on impact without the fragmenting and loss of weight seen in non-jacketed hollow point rounds. Speer Gold Dot ammo uses reloadable nickel-plated brass cases and clean-burning propellant that reduces fouling and delivers ideal velocity and chamber pressure.

.40 S&W was introduced in 1990 with the intent of improving the 10mm Auto cartridge favored by the FBI. It kicks less than a 10mm Auto, but has an energy transfer advantage over the 9mm Luger. Since its introduction, it has experienced wide use among civilians and law enforcement agencies.
