The 40 S&W handgun is already a fearsome weapon in its own right. But when you load it with Remington Ultimate Defense, you can rest assured that you’ve made it into one of the finest tools for personal protection you can carry.

This beast is outfitted with a 165 grain brass jacketed hollow point bullet. Brass is significantly harder than the copper alloy traditionally used to make jackets, and accordingly creates a bullet with heightened durability. A BJHP like this thus remains more intact as it breaks through barriers and penetrates flesh.

The BJHP wears spiral cut serrations around the edge of its nose cavity. These help the hollow point to instigate wide expansion, even considering how much harder the bullet’s brass jacket makes it. At 50 yards this round’s bullet converts nearly 400 ft lbs of energy into deep penetration and rapid outward expansion, which should prove more than adequate to send the largest threat reeling.

To be truly “ultimate,” a self-defense round’s features must not end with its projectile. That’s why Remington loaded this 40 S&W with low flash propellant, which preserves a shooter’s night vision to facilitate accurate rapid fire. It’s also why this round’s brass case is plated with nickel. The sleek, low-friction metal keeps feeding and extraction chugging along at a reliable pace, and its inherent resistance to corrosion keeps a carry weapon ready until it is needed.
