This 40 S&W cartridge from Speer has a subsonic muzzle velocity and a 180 grain projectile, just as its caliber’s design initially called for. It excels over the original 40 S&W owing to its Gold Dot projectile, a jacketed hollow point designed to neutralize a threat as fast as can be. There’s little wonder why law enforcement professionals favor Gold Dot so heavily.

This round’s bullet has been formed in two stages, determining both how far and how quickly it can expand. Its alloyed lead core has been bonded to its uniformly thick jacket via a proprietary electrochemical process, making separation of the two during penetration virtually impossible. The jacket benefits terminal performance by both facilitating penetration and controlling rapid expansion.

This cartridge features a nickel plated brass casing, so it possesses superior lubricity for smooth feeding and ejection, enhanced corrosion resistance, greater reflectivity for quicker chamber checks in the dark, and the ability to be reloaded. The round’s CCI primer ignites extremely reliably, and its clean burning propellant guarantees both a consistent muzzle velocity and chamber pressure.
