Federal made a big stir in 1989 when they introduced the Hydra-Shok: a jacketed hollow point bullet specialized for self-defense, with a unique little post protruding from the base of its nose cavity. This post promoted deeper penetration and more reliable expansion, and now its design has been improved upon even further with the Hydra-Shok Deep.

This 380 Auto round’s 99 grain bullet also features an aggressively notched jacket and improved core design, which in conjunction with the Hydra-Shok Deep’s robust center post deliver penetration to a minimum depth of 12” through bare ballistic gel – even when it is shielded by heavy clothing.

As the Hydra-Shok Deep tunnels inward, its jacket peels back to increase the bullet’s overall diameter considerably. In this fashion the Hydra-Shok Deep makes the most efficient use of the 380’s somewhat limited energy, giving your pocket pistol the power it needs to reliably manage a threat.

This round’s primer and propellant are both dependable, sparking up on cue to unleash their bullet at a muzzle velocity of 1,000 fps. Federal’s nickel plated brass case reduces friction to enhance reliable feeding and extraction, and furthermore protects the cartridge against corrosion that could cause a disastrous failure to fire.
