This round’s bullet contains no lead, so it is extremely lightweight for its caliber at a mere 50 grains. That’s why it’s able to achieve a muzzle velocity of 1,500 fps, which gives even so light a bullet 250 ft lbs of muzzle energy.
That’s still relatively little energy in the grand scheme of things, but this round’s nickel-plated copper hollow point bullet puts what juice it has at its disposal to work with remarkable efficiency. Its high velocity helps it conquer barriers like thick clothing, and once its nose cavity fills with soft tissue its side walls explode outward.
The bullet subsequently fragments apart to establish multiple wound channels within its target, transferring a massive amount of kinetic energy in the process. All in all this round’s wound cavity is about 12” deep and 2-1/2” wide!
This cartridge’s light bullet still generates very little recoil, so it’s easier to quickly line up multiple accurate shots. It still reliably fragments when fired in a snubnosed revolver, and its nickel-plated brass case helps resist corrosion that could have impacted overall performance. A fine choice for any 38 Special or 357 Magnum revolver you could use for self-defense – even older ones that aren’t rated for +P!
