A: Thanks for reaching out Junior! To be very sure, you would not want to get hit with a full metal jacket (FMJ) bullet – still, I do not recommend the FMJ or the lead round nose (LRN) for self-defense. These bullets cannot expand while they penetrate soft tissue. Terminal expansion does two important things: reduce the chance of potentially catastrophic over-penetration, and inflict more damage to surrounding soft tissues. A jacketed hollow point (JHP) is the most popular bullet for personal protection, as it is engineered for terminal expansion. I highly recommend this ammunition by Hornady of Nebraska for self-defense with a 38 Special firearm: https://www.luckygunner.com/38-special-125-gr-xtp-jhp-hornady-25-rounds-1

A: Yes sir, I'd trust these rounds' flat nose FMJs to prevent discharge in a lever-action rifle's magazine.
