This 38 Special +P cartridge takes a different approach to incapacitating terminal ballistics courtesy of its HoneyBadger – a non-expanding yet thoroughly devastating projectile.
This round’s bullet is lightweight at 100 grains because it actually contains no lead. It’s a solid copper bullet, which minimizes barrel fouling and has the toughness required to penetrate a range of urban barriers without losing a significant amount of its weight. An overpressure 38 Special round with so light a bullet also boasts a very fast muzzle velocity: 1,275 fps, which conveys a relatively high muzzle energy of 361 ft lbs! That’s more than adequate for self-defense.
Without a nose cavity, the HoneyBadger can’t become clogged with debris that would have cost it efficacy. It relies on a unique “drill bit” nose profile, which scoops up soft tissues and then rapidly jets them outward in lateral directions to create a massive wound cavity. It’s terminal performance like expansion, but without the actual expansion!
