A: Thanks for reaching out Kylr! Federal actually recorded this round's 1,400 muzzle velocity with a 6" barrel, which makes things rather convenient for you. I have little doubt that this round would produce the results you'd want during a self-defense scenario. According to our testing, the bullet does penetrate ballistic gel to an average depth of 16.8". That's 0.8" deeper than what's considered by the FBI test protocol – and we used a 2" barrel to get those results, so your 6" barrel should produce even deeper penetration (and potentially over-penetration). A lighter bullet ought to reduce your risk of over-penetration. Corbon's JHP ammo ought to suit you well: https://www.luckygunner.com/357-mag-110-grain-jhp-corbon-20-rounds (we gel tested that one too). I expect you'll find Remington HTP up to your standards as well: https://www.luckygunner.com/357-mag-125-grain-sjhp-remington-htp-20-rounds
